Yen now Tinkerbell, made mom Valerie a "foster flunkie" - a very good thing to be! She has been home since October 26 and Valerie said that Tinkerbell is doing quite well. She has joined an existing Cairn pack of four dogs -- 2 females and 2 males -- and just loves to run and play out in the yard with all the dogs. There are absolutely no problems.
As the family already has 4 cairns and Tinkerbell is now the 5th, Valerie really knows what she is doing and has been able to avert any aggressive behavior from her alpha female toward Tinkerbell. Valerie did say that Tink is still a bit of a scaredy cat and is a little fearful of men (her husband and sons), but we discussed that in time and with gentle handling by the men in the household, she will overcome her fear. She already will sit on the couch next to Robert and allow him to pet her. Robert also feeds all the dogs in the evening and takes them out, so all is good.
Tink know how to go upstairs but hasn't yet conquered coming down the stairs and we talked about how my son got one my dogs to go down the stairs very successfully. We started at the top of the stairs with the dog facing down and we put a super tasty treat on the next stair down. We then brought the front legs down one on either side of the treat and my son stood a couple of stairs down from this so that he blocked the view of the drop down. Chase took the treat and was down on that stair with no problem! We repeated until he was all the way down at the bottom and he never had another problem with stairs!
Valerie thought this was a great idea and couldn't wait to go try it. I believe that Tinkerbell has found herself a great home and is part of a pack of Cairns and this certainly sounds liver a very happy forever after!
