Mr. Petey & Miss Bessie Celebrate 2nd Gotcha Days!

Written by Petey fka CP Frisbee

Petey fka CP Frisbee and Bessie fka CP Besame

Hello there!  Petey here!  You knew me as CP Frisbee – a good name since I love to run and play – but Petey is a better name because my Mom and Dad picked it out for me!

I love to keep an eye on things…

Dad says I always have something to say, so I thought I would talk with my Col. Potter friends for a spell!  You know, I have been here with Mom and Dad for a Whole Two Years now!   Well, guess what?  Bessie – you knew her as CP Besame – she’s my sister and she will Also be here two whole years on November 27th!

…and I have lots of places to perch…
…even in the car!

Now, I love to talk and I make sure I have a nice conversation with Mom and Dad in the mornings and then again when Dad gets home from work, but Bessie does her share!  Mom and Dad call her “Wookie” because she talks like some Star Wars character – whatever that means!  What do we talk about?   Well, what don’t we talk about!   We have so many things that we might have seen on our walks or in the backyard, and then there are so many wonderful dreams to share in the morning!

Bessie likes to look from Mom’s arms!

Bessie was very shy when she first came here, preferring to stay in her crate all the time.  Well, Mom and Dad finally closed the crate when they were home and Bessie learned that it was not so bad to join me in the same room with Mom and Dad.  Now she will actually let Dad pick her up and hold her for a few minutes!

A major breakthrough occurred several weeks ago when she fell asleep on Dad’s lap and stayed there for nearly half an hour.  It seems like a small thing, but Mom and Dad were very happy when it happened!  She is also learning from me that begging for treats is a Good thing!  She is not hiding anymore when Mom and Dad have guests at the house, and she is happy snuggling with us all in the morning, up on the bed.  I am very proud of my sister Bessie, and really happy that she is getting bolder and developing her own sense of Cairnitude.  Makes play time all the better!

Of course, I am a real lover, more than anything.  My favorite activity (outside of eating) is giving kisses – and I would do it for hours on end if Mom and Dad let me!

OK!  Enough talking!  Let’s play!!!

Bessie and I want to thank everyone at Col. Potter for keeping us safe two years ago and helping us both find the best Mom and Dad ever – Forever!

CP Sir Albert nka Teddy Has a Ball in Forever!

Written by his New Mom

CP Sir Alpert nka Teddy, aka Keeper of the Balls

Teddy did great today!  He was shaking at the airport but after a quick potty break and treat he was good!!  He whined a little but then settled down nicely for the drive.

He found the tennis balls ASAP when he got home!  We've already had to barricade under the couch because he kept loosing them under there!

He's calmed down a lot, now he's quite intent on cuddling with Dad!!  He's taken an instant liking to him and is already playing favorites as far as who he wants to play ball with!

Teddy is happy to snuggle with New Mom & Dad
Were already in love! And Teddy seems pretty happy, too!!

OhBee fka CP BooBoo Blizzard a Canadian Forever!

Written by OB fka CP BooBoo Blizzard

OhBee fka CP BooBoo Blizzard aka OB

Hello, all my Col. Potter Friends!  Hello, Foster Mom!  You all remember me as CP BooBoo Blizzard, that handsome devil of a Foster who came in from the cold last January, but now I answer to “OhBee” or “OB” for short (…heeheehee!), and now I’m a Canadian!

Anyway, when I arrived at my Foster Home, I discovered that I had a lot of adjusting to do, living in a House and having brothers and sisters, but I put my mind into it (with a lot of help from Foster Mom!) and by March I was ready to move again to my Forever home – in Canada!

I have to admit, this new adjustment hasn’t been nearly as difficult, thanks to all of Foster Mom’s work, but also thanks to my new Family!  They are great!  My new Canadian lifestyle includes going to the beach, going kayaking, boating, paddle-boarding, swimming, and, of course, there is still lots of snow and ice up here!

I love to ride up front to navigate…

…but I’m also a good sternman!

My Mom thinks I’m “a funny little boy” and she is so happy that I get along so great with my new sisters.  I also love to sing!  …Well, maybe it’s more of a howl, but it’s full throated and music to Mom’s ears – most of the time!

Being a Canadian Cairn is great!

Anyway, Mom says to say “Thanks!” again to the excellent Volunteers at Col. Potter – and especially my Foster Mom, Christy C. – because I wouldn't have this great new Life - and my family wouldn’t have Me - if it wasn't for you all!!!

Manny fka CP Manassas after 3 Years in Forever!

Contributed by his Mom

Manny fka CP Manassas

I adopted Manny three years ago, in August, 2010, and he's the love of my life!  I didn't want to confuse him further, so I kept the nickname “Manny” for Col Potter's name which was “Manassas”.

Manny is the only dog I've had who LOVES his toys!  He shows this love by taking all toys out of his toy box and strategically placing them all over the house so one is always within reach.  Messy house; happy dog.  We even sleep with a menagerie of favorites that he enjoys stalking, torturing, and killing as a restful sleep appetizer.

Nice catch!

Well, I was out shopping and saw some Gund toys.  One, a little worm critter, looked about Manny size and it made a cute giggling noise.  It was the same price as doggie toys so home it came.  As soon as he heard the giggle noise, Manny was smitten... and determined to kill it! Best toy EVER!

I wonder if it will move on its own…
What goes up…
…must be caught!
So, there!
…and There!

He captured it, tossed it in the air like a Hacky Sack, played keep-away and tug of war!  If I captured it, he wouldn't take his eyes off it until he seized it once more.  He kept his eyes on the prize!  When the time was right, he pounced.  Then with a shark-like attack, he went for the kill!  Poor Wormy!  First he lost an eye.  Then I found wormy entrails around the house.  His giggle was but a memory...  "I am Manny! No critter escapes these mighty jaws!"  What a guy!

Mom?  Can we go shopping again???

Many Thanks to Foster Mom, Susan M. and Col. Potter for rescuing Manny!  He's a little hunk o' luv!
