Bella: All the Love and Comforts of Home

Hello Aunt Mary,

It's Bella. Do you remember me. Of course you do. It has been two years since I came to my forever home and I am just loving it. They say it's a dogs life and they have no idea. It has been a busy summer for Mommy and Daddy. It seems that Daddy is at work a long time lately. We know because he's the one that usually lets us out and we have not been getting out as early. Mommy has even beat Daddy home a few times. He says it will get better in a while. I sure hope so because when he's not here I miss him something awful. DeDe is doing fine and so is Grandpa. Mommy and Daddy went on a trip this spring and Grandpa came and stayed with us. I like that a lot too because he spoils us.

Mommy and Daddy have decided they needed to lose some weight so they started walking and of course you know what that means. They make me walk too. I can go for a little bit but then when I decide that I've had enough, I just plant my little butt and someone has to carry me. Guess who carries me. I kind of do that on purpose because then I get to be in Daddy's arms. Aren't I a little princess?

Here is a photo of me in my little "Princess" nest. Daddy thinks that I am the sweetest. I hope that everything in your life is going great. Say Hi to all your little ones for me. If I am ever traveling through the area I will let you know and we can stop by and play for a bit. Same thing goes for you. Stop by anytime you are in the area.

Love
Bella

From Mom and Dad,

We could not have asked for a better little girl. She continues to be the apple of my eye. She is just a delight to have around and has become the sister we wished for DeDe. It is so hard to believe that she came into our lives two years ago. Where does the time go? This little one deserved to have a good home from the start. The folks that gave her up first have no idea what they gave up but we are so happy to have her and we will continue to keep her healthy and spoil her in the manner she deserves.

Have a great rest to the summer.

Bella Writes to Foster Mom

Hi Aunt Mary, It's me Bella,

I haven't written since Christmas so I thought I would drop you a note and tell you all about what is going on in my life. Well in my life, it just gets better by the day. Mommy and Daddy are the best and DeDe is just like a true sister. She is always getting in trouble and blaming me. Just because my paws were the ones that were all dirty when the rose got dug up was just an unfortunate coincidence. Daddy wasn't home at the time so mommy and grandpa had to replant the rose. Daddy has been doing a lot of traveling for his work but he has told me that he is done now and he is very happy for that.

A couple of weeks ago daddy took me to the doctors and all I remember was getting a shot. When I woke up my teeth were all clean and my toenails were trimmed. It took almost three full days to get over the fog in my head so tell all the little cairns "Don't do drugs." I did get over it though and now I am back to my old self.

The weekends are still my favorite. This morning daddy got up around 5:00 and lets us out. After that we get to get in the big bed and snuggle. It is just the best. This morning I snuggled up next to daddy and he pulled the blankie over me and I was just in heaven. When we did get up I had an appointment at the beauty parlor and do I look good or what. You can see in the attached picture. Like the pretty pink bow? I certainly think it brings out the best in me. My beautician's name is Mary also. She is a very nice lady. I see a pattern here. Nice ladies named Mary. Huh!

It is a very nice day here today so when we got home all the neighborhood dogs were out front so we all went out to visit. I am still a bit shy around all them. I pretty much hang out under mom or dad's legs. I like to tangle them up in my leash. I do it on purpose to get attention. Pretty smart don't you think?

Mom and dad went to the fabric store this morning while I was at the beauty parlor. They have been making rope toyzzzz for Pam E like the ones we sent you at Christmas. There is going to be a big sale on fleece starting tomorrow so they went to check it out. It is their little way of helping the fosters. Speaking of fosters, do you have a foster now? If so I would sure love to meet him or her and show them what life outside a puppy mill can be like. Mine has turned out to be the best.

Sure hope you are having a great winter. We are looking forward to spring and being outside in our yard more. If you are ever in the area we would sure love to see you. If we come your way this summer we will give you a call and maybe stop and see you. Have a great rest of the winter.

Till next time.

Beautiful Bella

Hi. We adopted "Mariah" from Col. Potter Rescue several weeks ago. Her Foster Mom called her "Bella.” That is the name we call her since she answers to "Bella". Before we adopted her we were told she has "problems"... she bites and is very timid with people. She especially loves men and is very wary with women.
We took her home with us and much to our delight she is a wonderful, fun, loving dog. We drove her from her foster mom's house in a crate. She rode in the car with us for 2 and 1/2 hours. Never a peep from her. She was quite content in the car and slept a lot of the way. When we arrived at our home we opened the cage and she jumped from the car and ran into the house, her tail wagging and happy as could be. She ran around the house sniffing and smelling each room and made herself at home. We had bowls set up for her in the kitchen with water and food, she found those and chowed down.
We were told she might regress and hide under the bed and bite us if we tried to pick her up. Yes, of course I had to reach for her to pick her up and she nipped at my hand breaking the skin no big deal I told her "no Bella its okay we love you".
That night she slept with us and licked our faces to show how happy she was. I was very confident we could make friends with her, to trust us and know we would never hurt her.
Her foster parents and I cried when we left their home they loved her and were sad to see her leave but knew we were going to give her a "loving home" and she would be a lucky dog to be with us.
She has made our lives so blessed. She is so sweet and runs around the yard so happy to be here with us. The neighbors have bought her "presents" and she is getting so spoiled...she loves them also and is not one bit shy with them.
Right now I am on the computer and she is laying on the chair next to me very content. She loves to go out in the car with us and as soon as we open the door to the garage and car she jumps in ready to go..
I gave her a shower with me and she was fine with that, I brushed her and cut the hair around her face and she is fine with it....not growling or teeth baring.
I am so happy with her and hope others will take in loving pets from "Col. Potter Rescue". The volunteers are unbelievable and care so much about the pets you would like to adopt. I am so impressed with the whole group of people I have had the privilege of knowing through the emails. They are dedicated people who love the "rescue dog". I will become one of them.

Read All About It: CP Girl Bella Makes Headlines!

RESCUED PUPS - Bella, age 4 and Abby, age 2, pose with Santa Paws at the Central Aroostook Humane Society on Saturday as proud 'parents' Jackie and Carl W, of Mapleton, stood by and watched.  Both are 'rescue dogs, with Bella coming from the Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network (edited - kg) for Cairn Terriers and Abby having been rescued from a house fire at the coupe's home about a year ago.  Jackie said she and her husband lost everything, but Carl saved the most important thing in the house when he got her pup out safely.

Bella fka Nashua: Six Months of Happiness!

Hi, This is Jackie W here with a +6 month follow-up on our beautiful new girl, Bella (fka Nashua). She is completely at home in her forever home and what's more is we can't imagine life with out her. She is Mama's girl, although she loves everyone. We start most days at 6:30 am with a 3 mile walk. Yep, Bella loves it and probably gets more mileage with the "side-to-side" walk she does. And she loves to stop and eat an apple or pick up a stick to carry. Next, she goes for a ride with Dad (Carl) to Dunkin Donuts for his coffee. Then it's nap time. Afternoons are more play time, usually chasing squirrels in the back yard and fetching balls. And at the end of her day, she loves climbing up her steps and snuggling in bed with her mom, dad and sister, Abby.

She is a sweet and joyous dog. For the most part, the two Cairns get along although Bella likes to guard any type of food and can provoke Abby with that. Carl & I are so thankful for Col Potter and the wonderful work they do. We will always be ambassadors for rescue dogs. Actually, they bring far more than we could ever give them. Thank you, all of you, for caring so much about these wonderful dogs. They have blessed our lives!

Gotcha Bella!

Hi Aunt Mary and all, it's me Bella!
Do you know what today is? It is the one year anniversary of my “Gotcha Day”. That’s right, I have been living the high life for a year now with my furever family and loving every minute of it. I just can’t believe that it was a little over a year since I was in that terrible place. Living the life that I am now living, those memories are just a part of my past. I never stop wagging my tail and my tongue goes just about as fast. I really love Saturday and Sunday mornings because that’s when we get to get in bed with mom and dad and snuggle. I of course snuggle with daddy because he is my favorite. I get so close to him that sometimes he has to move over. I do that on purpose so he has to snuggle back. He’s the best. I love mommy too but daddy is my favorite. I want to tell all the little furkids that a lot of great things can happen to you in a year if you are a Colonel Potter furkid.

I want to thank all the folks at Colonel Potter’s for finding me my furever home and especially Aunt Mary for taking such good care of me until my mommy and daddy could find me and take me home. I am truly home. I hope that every one of my sisters and brothers that are awaiting new furever families can find a loving family like mine in the next year.

If anyone is coming through the Denver area and needs a break, please consider stopping by and saying Hi. Mom, dad, DeDe and myself love having company. Especially if there is another cairn or two to play with.
Hugs and kisses,
Bella
From DeDe:
Thank you so much for giving me a sister to run and play with. Bella washes my face everyday and we sleep together in the same kennel. We are an inseparable pair.
From Mom and Dad:
We just want to thank everyone at Colonel Potter’s for bringing this wonderful little girl into our lives. The last year has been such a joy and we are doing everything in our power to treat her like the Princess that she is.
Thanks again.

Nashua Moves from Pennsylvania to Maine

Furever Family sent Foster Mom Amy this update following Nashua's adoption:

We arrived home to Maine uneventfully yesterday afternoon. We are calling our girl Bella and she travelled like a champ. It went surprisingly well.  Fursister Abby is adjusting - less "spoiled child" outbursts. Bella stands her ground on what's important to her and Abby respects that. We are very please with their interaction. Both are now seeking the other to play. Bella loves the snow and has done well walking with Abby.  Potting training is in progress - I'm sure time and adjustment to her new home will bring her along fine.

We are so happy to have Bella and love her a ton already. She is a wonderful fit with our family. Will keep in touch as we progress. Again, thanks for all you do to make this happen!!! Col. Potter is heaven sent.

Love and best wishes,
Jackie, Carl, Abby & Bella

It is a Merry Christmas!

I have to say that this has been the best Christmas of my young life. I was adopted by my furever mom and dad in September from my foster mom Mary, and never in my wildest dreams could I have dreamed what Christmas was supposed to be like. Those years in the mill are forever behind me. I got a new ball, chewy toy, stuffed toy, a bunch of goodies and the best thing I got was a mom and dad, and a cairn sister that loves me. I have never been so happy and neither have they. Thank you Col. Potter for everything you did in helping find me my mom and dad and my furever home. Bella, (fka Abelle from Topeka), Jim & Cindy

Happy Thanksgiving from Bella & DeDe!

We wanted to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. We are very thankful for our family and friends, which we include you in both categories, and very thankful to Col Potters for bringing CoCo and Bella into our lives.

We are thankful for the time, as short as it was, that we had with CoCo. We are so very thankful for our new little love Bella and we cannot forget our first little love DeDe.

We have been blessed with two of the best family members possible from Col Potters. Not many people get a family when they adopt a dog but we feel we got that and more.

Have a great Thanksgiving and a most joyous holiday season.

Jim, Cindy, DeDe, and Bella

Bella Loves Her Life!

Dear Aunt Mary, I didn't know life could be this good. I am so happy with my new forever family that words cannot express it. They love me no matter what kind of trouble I cause and believe me I can cause trouble. We have gotten into a regular routine and it is working just great. I am so excited to see my daddy come home that I about burst. DeDe is a great sister too. She has taught me a lot - some things mom and dad didn't want me to learn. Like how to escape from the laundry room. We have had several great adventures in the house when no one was home but dad thinks he has fixed that. He thinks he has corralled us but we are working on our next escape route. I am getting plenty of exercise running around the house and yard, and daddy has been taking us to the doggie park when he gets home. I am still a little unsure of myself around all those dogs but I can hold my own. Under daddy's legs that is. He says I am getting better. I will venture off and sniff all the great sniffs that there are to sniff. Then coming running back when someone tries to sniff me. We are working on things like Sit, Stay, and Come. I can do all that but only when it suits me. I am of course a Cairn, and we only do what we want to do when we want to do it. Last night I got my first bath in my new home. Daddy is learning that I am a handful when I am wet. I really did not want to be dried off afterwards and I let him know. I wiggled and wormed like only I can do but in the end I let him dry me off. Then it was off to romp with sis. Such fun. I am sending a couple of pictures so you can see how they spoil me. I am really the happiest little Cairn that ever lived. Thanks again for the great start. We think of you often. Luv Bella
