CP's Lucy turns 7 - and Gives Back to Her Rescuers!

Hello everyone,

Yesterday was Lucy's (CP's Nurture) 7th birthday. I didn't realize it until late in the evening and all she got was some boiled chicken as a special treat with her dinner.

However, today I am going into town and I thought about what I could get her. She loves to wear dresses, but has way too many already, and she has just really started getting into toys, but her and Archie's Cairn Toys toybox is full to the brim. So, after asking her for ideas, she said she would like for me to make a donation to Col. Potter in her honor of her 7th birthday. Had it not been for Col. Potter she may have not seen her 7th b-day.

So, a special thanks to Col. Potter for rescuing my super special Cairn girl Lucy. She is truly a blessing and we have enjoyed having her for almost 2 years now. Many many thanks, and we hope Lucy's special birthday gift and help another mill momma see her 7th birthday.

Lucy: From a Horrible Place to a "Best Thing"

Thank you for sharing the story of the 25 CPCRN kids, even though it made me cry. My baby girl is in those pictures. Nurture, now known as Lucy, is one of the best things that ever happened to our family. To see those pictures of her, breaks my heart and brought tears to my eyes. She is a pure joy and is super friendly. She loves to run and play with her brother and cousins. She is a fiesty little girl with plenty of spunk. Those pictures are definately in her past. I have attached a recent picture of her playing with her skinneeez skunk, laying in the sunshine in her pink dress. (She loves to wear clothes.)

Thankful Archie & Lucy

My dogs show their thankfulness by the unending unconditional love they share. Archie has always had the good life and has excepted Lucy with open arms. This morning, he got a big icecube, broke it in half and carried a piece to Lucy. She just learned to like ice cubes.

I hate to think of her life before Col. Potter rescued her. She is such a joy. We are just as thankful for her as she is for us.

Here is a picture of her and Archie laying in our bed the other day. He wanted us to see how much he loves her and gave her a kiss.:)

HOMEMAKER is now LUCY

Lucy is such a little love pot. We just adore her. Recently, in the middle of the night, she woke me up by licking my fingers and palm! Don't really understand what she was trying to accomplish, but she approached this task as though it were a project that she had to finish!

Her face is so precious, I can't stop kissing her! I have also started to let her run free in the back yard, without the long leash trailing behind. She runs like the wind, but always wants to keep me in sight. If I go in the house, she comes in after me. I'm looking forward to seeing her reaction to snow! Alice, this morning she took the orange ball from your house and had it in her mouth while she was racing through the yard.

She continues to only be able to settle down by staying on my bed, or the couch, with her back to the headboard or the back of the couch. She will never just lay on the floor or calmly walk around the house. She will go up and downstairs by herself, but only to find me if I have left the room she is in. And when she is moving locations, she is running and sliding on my wood floors.

Lucy gets along fine with the cat, as I have to close them both up in my bedroom during the times I am away, as I'm afraid my mother-in-law might open a door to the outside and one of them might escape. They appear to be getting along quite well – not bosom buddies, but comfortable tolerance. Bella and Lucy sleep in bed with me at night, and sometimes actually give me enough space to sleep comfortably. This is not often, however.

Lucy's Happy Ever After

It was quite some time ago that my husband and I decided that our furkid Archie (also a Cairn) needed a brother or sister. I had run across Col. Potter before and told him that if we got another dog, it was going to be a rescue. We filled out an application and started the process. We made it through the reference check, hit a snag on the home visit (no volunteers in the area) and then hurricane Gustav made a direct hit on our town with Ike not too far away. Needless to say, this put a huge roadblock, temporary but huge roadblock in our adoption process.

Archie and I evacuated to my sister-in-laws house in Mississippi. There I had internet access and was able to keep in touch with Bev, our very patient and understanding matchmaker. I had come across a description (without a picture) of a female being fostered in Michigan. Her description sounded like the perfect match for Archie's tempermant and our family in general.

Bev emailed me her information and I had a good feeling about her. We kept in touch over the next few weeks, as it took a while to get home and get settled back into a normal routine. We shared several email's with Lucy's foster mom Susan, who was super helpful and just a really caring person all around. Lucy has missing fur on her back leg and Susan was concerned that this would be an issue. After we talked with her for a while and the more we learned about Lucy, the hair was not even an issue. If it grows back, great, if not, oh well.

So, we got approved to adopt this little girl. She flew into New Orleans on October the 10th. The introduction with her new brother Archie went well, she followed him right into the house like she was born and raised here and had known him her whole life. The first few days she was a little skiddish. That didn't last long. She is no longer afraid of my husband, she knows he isn't going to hurt her. She wrestles, plays with toys, zooms around in the yard and just acts like a brand new puppy.

Her hair has even started to grow back. She is an absolute doll and loves everyone she meets, even kids. She and Archie have become great friends, I couldn't imagine a better match for our family. She will only know happy days for the rest of her life.
