Dusty and Dougie - Together again

The day was beautiful - a little nippy for Florida, but nice and sunny. Kelly, Devin and Dusty were already in the back fenced area when Dougie (fka Moonshine) came out. Dougie was a little confused, not knowing why there were strangers (and their dog) in his back yard, and why he had to be on a leash. Once the leash came off, he felt free to be himself. He soon realized that the people were really nice and their dog was his brother that he hadn't seen in a month, and probably thought he'd never see again. Shyness was soon replaced with happiness and the little white tails of the little white boys looked like helicopter propellers for the rest of the morning.

Jaymee: Where There's Love, There's Room for One More

Jaymee's permanant address is WV! She had been making little changes, gaining confidence, playing more, but when she decided my lap was her morning ritual, I knew in my heart she wasnt going anywhere.

Jaymee sleeps more, but oh so calmly, not skitterish or jumping and running at slight movements. I think it is a combination of age, plus she is more active with the pack during the day and she just wears herself out a little more.!

And then she started just walking up and laying down beside Darby and Ripley, sort of chilling out with them, touching ever so slightly, that never happened before. (NO one touches Alpha Queen Duncan, unless she decides to sit with/on them!)

I have always called her Jaymee Beth and that is what she answers to.
Jaymee is home in my Heart! And the gang knew it before I did!

Mr. T. Burns Rubber (almost!) to His New Family

Hi everyone,
Mr. T left yesterday with a wonderful family, I tried awfully hard to dislike!! They are some of the nicest people I've ever met, so kudo's to Maryellen L for her efforts on T's behalf.

We met their Westie Rocky, and he is a really sweet and happy boy, who will be getting neutered along with T... LOL... the boys that loose their nuggets together, will stay together.

Ok, so yeah, I sobbed a bit, gave T lots of kisses and sent him on his way.

Funny story, his new family forgot his treats, so Karen D ran out to give them to them before they left, and the family panicked and thought Karen was running out to stop them from leaving with T, and that I wanted him back. The Mom, Nathalie, told Karen, I didn't know whether to burn rubber or what... We did laugh about that for quite a while.

So, as much as my heart is broken, I am happy he is with such a lovely family who will love him forever and I can be a favorite Auntie.

Thanks to all for your support during this very hard adoption for me.

The Brotherly Love of Moonshine and Dusty

Today, Moonshine got to meet his new family and reunite with his brother. His brother Dusty was SO, so happy to see Moonshine, and Moonshine acted like he was in a dream and would wake up at any minute. They seemed to pick up right where they left off a month ago. Moonshine made sure that Dusty saw all the neat toys and Dusty followed Moonshine from room to room.

Kelly and Devin are the sweetest ladies you would ever want to meet. They are thrilled to have "the twins" and look forward to many hours of fetch, and tug, and walks....and I hope they join up with CPCRN and send lots of updates. Kelly's already promised an update later this evening.

Barnabas - the Cairn of Encouragement

A few weeks ago Barnabas met his new parents, John and Sharon. They lost their beloved cairn girl in the spring and were in need of a new cairn spirit. Barnabas seemed to call to his mom through his picture! Barnabas, now Bryn, is an only furkid living in the windy city of Chicago. He has a park two blocks from his home for cairn things like squirrel watching. When the weather is warm, Mr. Barnabas will be enjoying walks on the beach of Lake Michigan (only a few blocks away) ! His new family has quite a history with terriers going back to when his dad was a wee lad in Ireland. His extended family includes two vets for long distance consultations! His new mom reports that he's very sweet natured and being a 'love bug'. She also said he just plays, plays and plays!

Aquarius Joins a CP Family

Foster Mom Amy reports that Aquarius "left the building" today with her furever family. Aquarius will now be known as LuLu and her new family is just wonderful.

Introductions were made by Ken and Geri first with just the new HOOMAN family.  Then after that went GREAT, resident Cairn Muffin (a 10 year old former CP boy who now sadly, is blind) met his new sister.

You know it’s surely good people that will get a Cairn FOR THEIR Cairn.  What a lucky girl, and what a lucky family to be taking in another CP Cairn.

Arkie Fox - Already in Love with His Furever Family

I got all of his stuff ready (blankie,meds,new toys, treats, No-Wolfing-Food bowl, vet paperwork, etc) so we could leave bright and early. Baby, the Grandcairn, went along for moral support. Fox lay on my lap for the entire 1 hr drive. We got there early, pottied at the Collin St Bakery, and then waited for the Forever Family.

When they pulled in, it was like Old Home Week! The Grandcairn hid and growled at the strangers, and Fox did the Happy Dance! And immediately velcroed himself to New Dad, Ron. They seem like a wonderful family, with a 1 acre fenced yard (that had deer last night) so I think Fox is going to like East TX. (They even got new addition babycards made with Fox's pix!)

No kidding, I was kicked to the curb! We took some pictures, but I think he had already psychically checked out of the foster home. He went of with the strangers and could care less that Baby weren't coming along. Maybe it was the big pickup truck, or he just knew they were his Forever people?

Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the moral support for my Fox. And thanks to our MM, Theresa C, for finding us a wonderful family.

From Kansas to Canada - O'Duffy is a Cairnadian!

O' Duffy, now known as Willy, is not a Yankee anymore. He is now living in beautiful Wasaga Beach, ON Canada with his new proud parents and happy-go-lucky brother, Fred the Schnauzer. As you can see Willy is a much loved dog and making his family proud and happy. Willy flew up to his new home on Friday and seems to have made himself quite at home. Congratulations to Tim, Jan, Fred, and Willy McLeod.

Hi Mary and Bev,
Jan decided to let me do tonight’s update as she’s busy doing banking and getting ready for Willy’s first visit to out vet tomorrow.

Today was day three with Wonderful Willy, and it just keeps getting better and better! This morning started out great with me taking both boys out to do their morning business as soon as they got up. Willy did both duties within about three minutes and was back waiting at the door for Fred to finish. Back into the crates while I got their breakfast ready and then I released the beasts to devour their food. Fred eats in the kitchen and Willy in the back room, just outside his pen. Then they switch positions to check and see if the other left any morsels uneaten. Then back into their crates for half an hour to let their meals settle, and back outside for some exercise.

Both Willy and Fred seem comfortable initiating play and both are okay if the other isn’t interested at the moment. You’d think they’d been together all their lives! Today Willy spotted a squirrel and chased it up a tree, then tried to climb the tree after it. He was so determined, I actually thought for a moment he might do it! They had such a good time in the back yard this morning that I decided to bypass the morning walk and just let them enjoy themselves. By the time they were finished they were ready for a morning nap. After an hour or so the came out and had a good play in the house, then back out for another bathroom break.

Willy has been amazingly swift to learn the cable run. He remembers which side of which tree he has to go on and rarely wraps himself around a tree. At the same time both boys are getting better at not getting their cables crossed. I thought it would take a lot longer than this to teach them but everything is going so well.

This afternoon we left them alone in their crates for an hour or so while we went to visit Jan’s Mom in the nursing home. There was no problem when we went out and both were sleeping when we came home. Tomorrow we’ll do it again a few more times to get ready for the work week but it certainly doesn’t appear that it will be an issue.

Tonight after the family walk the boys had another BIG play inside and then both collapsed in front of the fireplace. I wish we had a picture of that scene, but I know both of them would have bounded up to see what we were doing if we went to get the camera. I’ll have to plan ahead for it next time.

Willy and Fred are such a good match it’s almost as if we’re living in a dream. Fred is much happier with Willy here, and Willy really seems to enjoy his company too.

Thank you Mary for the amazing job you’ve done in turning our scared little boy into the most loving companion we could ever wish for. He’s fitting into our family very well and you can tell he’s feeling more secure here every day. We can’t thank you enough.

We saw your last update on Willy on the CPCRN website. Thank you so much, it was very touching and we want to assure you that we will give him the best care that we can for as long as he is alive.

Earnhardt Has Been Adopted

Earnhardt is traveling with his new forever family as they return to their home in Colorado. He was a little alarm clock dog, waking me to let him out at 5 am when he first arrived, but gradually learning to wait until a more reasonable time of 7 am. He will have a fur brother named Motley who also like to play and I am sure they will entertain their parents as well as themselves.

Busy Buddy!

Dear Sherry,

Thanks for helping us with our adoption. Everyone involved was really great and we think we made a great choice. Buddy is a great dog, he gets along with our old lady Missy great, she was a little nervous around him at first but she is warming up to him every day. We have no problems with him, and he settled in here like he lived here all his life. He loves going on rides to the parks and lakes in our area and loves trying to chase everything that crosses his path. During the week he goes for two walks every day and every weekend is somewhere special, I don't think he has seen the same park twice yet. He runs and swims all weekend and still doesn't tire, Val, Missy, and I have a hard time keeping up with him. He is a great addition to our family and we couldn't have asked for a better dog. He does have one problem I forgot to mention, thunderstorms. He gets really angry at the storms and runs around barking, not because he's scared, just angry at the storm. We are working on it but don't really care because he makes up for it with everything else he does. We really love him and would like to thank everyone at Col. Potter.

Bella fka Nashua: Six Months of Happiness!

Hi, This is Jackie W here with a +6 month follow-up on our beautiful new girl, Bella (fka Nashua). She is completely at home in her forever home and what's more is we can't imagine life with out her. She is Mama's girl, although she loves everyone. We start most days at 6:30 am with a 3 mile walk. Yep, Bella loves it and probably gets more mileage with the "side-to-side" walk she does. And she loves to stop and eat an apple or pick up a stick to carry. Next, she goes for a ride with Dad (Carl) to Dunkin Donuts for his coffee. Then it's nap time. Afternoons are more play time, usually chasing squirrels in the back yard and fetching balls. And at the end of her day, she loves climbing up her steps and snuggling in bed with her mom, dad and sister, Abby.

She is a sweet and joyous dog. For the most part, the two Cairns get along although Bella likes to guard any type of food and can provoke Abby with that. Carl & I are so thankful for Col Potter and the wonderful work they do. We will always be ambassadors for rescue dogs. Actually, they bring far more than we could ever give them. Thank you, all of you, for caring so much about these wonderful dogs. They have blessed our lives!

Flower's Swimming Hole

Here is Flower in her personal swimming pool - life guard supervised, of course.  She loves it as you can tell. It will be sad when it gets colder, the pool will be closed until next spring. The green vegetation is water cress, ready to be picked.  She is the best cairn in the world - I am just a little prejudice. 

She now loves going in the car, but still can't have any food before. I am sure she will get better with time. We are going on a big adventure next week - a visit to my sister's in Va.    Louise (Corgi), Flower and I are going to spend a few days with their cousins ( 4 legged) and my sister.   Flower loves to play with "Maggie" who is a miniture version of an Irish Setter.   Louise and her sister, Thelma, will be happy to watch.

Oscar is a city kid!

Just wanted to drop you a line now that summer is coming to a close and give you an update on Oscar. We had a great summer in Portland, lots of exploring and enjoying the new backyard. Oscar has adjusted very well and is definitely now a city dog...no shying away from loud trucks or anything. We went to to coast a few times as well and Oscar loves the beach...not so much the water but the sand, rolling around in seaweed etc. He had some troubles with his allergies this summer, one time ending up with an infected tail from biting it so much (hence the cone picture), but the scratching biting and flaky skin have been much better in the last week or so with the cooler weather. Overall he's a very happy little boy!

The Perfect Home for Paddington, now Angus

Paddington, is such a delight. He even answers to his new name, Angus . He seemed to know that he belonged to me right away. He follows me around and is so well mannered. Someone did a terrific job of training him. No accidents. I let him have the run of the house--with certain supervision. He sleeps in the kitchen and I never hear a peep out of him all night. I am almost ready to have him sleep with me. I just cannot believe how at home he seems. It as if he had always lived here!!

Playful Gouda is now Buddy, the Hunter

Buddy is doing really well and we still have not experienced any problems with him. He has adjusted very well or maybe we just adjusted to him. Probably both. He spends a great deal of time outside where he runs free through the entire back yard and chases squirrels or Christy. They are nice playmates and neither gets too rough with the other; they are pretty well matched. Christy seems to allow Buddy to be the alpha most times when they play. She works really hard to get him distracted enough from chasing squirrels to play with her that she is usually the most submissive one. You should hear the belly laughs we have watching those two at play.

Buddy's attention is on his hunting at this point in time. He is not as interested in anything but going outside and patrolling the yard. I guess I cannot blame him since he has spent the majority of his life in a cage. We sure hate to make him come in but I believe he would live outside if we let him. He reminds me of a child who plays until they drop over from exhaustion. I had to carry him to bed tonight; he was like a little limp doll he was so tired. Christy is running and playing more which is good for her physical health.

We are so thankful to all of you guys who helped us adopt this little guy. He is such a blessing to our family. Thanks again!
