Buddy: Two Years Old; One Year Gotcha

Friday, August 12th:  Today is Buddy's (CP Gouda) second birthday. Also next week will be our one year gotcha anniversary with him. We celebrated with a bone meatloaf with a side of carrots, green beans and broccoli. For dessert we dined on angel food cake with a little butter cream frosting.

Thanks to CP and the loving kindness of his foster family, Lori & Mike R, Buddy is enjoying his freedom to the fullest every day. He runs and play with fursib Christy Ann and gives all the squirrels a run for their money for as long as we will allow him to remain outside. He is such a joy to us and he makes us laugh every day. He is such a loving and happy little guy that it is hard to recall what our lives were without him. He is quite the vociferous little guy and lets us know daily how happy he is to be living a free life.

I just want to thank Col. Potter and all of you loving people for giving Buddy a chance at a happy life everafter.

Buddy fka Sainted Riley - Strides in all the Right Directions

Hello! I'm so sorry for not keeping in better touch with you, please accept my apology. Buddy is taking little strides to come out of his shell since we last spoke and each little stride is adorable! 1. He now goes up and down the stairs like a champ. I actually think he enjoys doing it or something because he goes up and down for no reason sometimes it seems like! haha 2. We LOVE to go on walks and now that the weather is HOPEFULLY going to warm up, I am super excited to take him to the dog park so he can run around and make friends and experience that for the first time... He loves to meet new dogs on our walks, which he used to just ignore them. 3. He and Ruby play ALOT more now, they run around back and forth, wrestle, run some more, but Buddy always ends up on his back...on purpose of course. He just always rolls over on his back and lays there and wrestles from his back, very cute 4. He used to not be a fan of riding in the car, but now he likes to come with me when I run short errands, especially if it involves stopping at my brother's to see him, my sister in law and Ruby for a visit 5. Buddy NEVER has any accidents, it is amazing, but I assume that has something to do with him enjoying his set schedule of yummy food and walks and playtime. 6. He's had two haircuts/groomings so far. He isn't such a fan of this but he loves feeling clean and all the pets he gets from everyone about how handsome he looks when it is over! 7. He still doesnt' seem to like to have his picture taken but I will try to get some recent pictures to you asap, promise. Adam

Buddy checking in!

Hi Mary,

Val, Phil, Missy and Buddy checking in to let you know everything is going great with Buddy. He now likes to chase airplanes since we live next to an airport and will run up and down the yard as they fly over. At one of the parks we go to they fly model planes and he goes nuts chasing them.

He also loves to bulldoze the snow and bury his head in it, he looks so cute when he comes to the door with his head covered in snow.

He and Missy get along great and were caught cuddled together a couple of times.His allergies are all gone now, it was mostly to poultry, flax seed, and some veggies but with his new diet he never itches. We love Buddy and are so glad we adopted him. Once again thanks to everyone at Col Potter for all their help. I am attaching some pics of Buddy, hope to get some snow pics tomorrow.

Gouda now Buddy Finds a Home and a Sister

Gouda is doing great in his forever home. He takes his job of squirrel patrol quite seriously no matter what the weather. He loves chasing and wrestling with his cairn "sister" Christy or just hanging out and napping. His mom is amazed at what a wonderful boy he is.

Busy Buddy!

Dear Sherry,

Thanks for helping us with our adoption. Everyone involved was really great and we think we made a great choice. Buddy is a great dog, he gets along with our old lady Missy great, she was a little nervous around him at first but she is warming up to him every day. We have no problems with him, and he settled in here like he lived here all his life. He loves going on rides to the parks and lakes in our area and loves trying to chase everything that crosses his path. During the week he goes for two walks every day and every weekend is somewhere special, I don't think he has seen the same park twice yet. He runs and swims all weekend and still doesn't tire, Val, Missy, and I have a hard time keeping up with him. He is a great addition to our family and we couldn't have asked for a better dog. He does have one problem I forgot to mention, thunderstorms. He gets really angry at the storms and runs around barking, not because he's scared, just angry at the storm. We are working on it but don't really care because he makes up for it with everything else he does. We really love him and would like to thank everyone at Col. Potter.

Playful Gouda is now Buddy, the Hunter

Buddy is doing really well and we still have not experienced any problems with him. He has adjusted very well or maybe we just adjusted to him. Probably both. He spends a great deal of time outside where he runs free through the entire back yard and chases squirrels or Christy. They are nice playmates and neither gets too rough with the other; they are pretty well matched. Christy seems to allow Buddy to be the alpha most times when they play. She works really hard to get him distracted enough from chasing squirrels to play with her that she is usually the most submissive one. You should hear the belly laughs we have watching those two at play.

Buddy's attention is on his hunting at this point in time. He is not as interested in anything but going outside and patrolling the yard. I guess I cannot blame him since he has spent the majority of his life in a cage. We sure hate to make him come in but I believe he would live outside if we let him. He reminds me of a child who plays until they drop over from exhaustion. I had to carry him to bed tonight; he was like a little limp doll he was so tired. Christy is running and playing more which is good for her physical health.

We are so thankful to all of you guys who helped us adopt this little guy. He is such a blessing to our family. Thanks again!

Our Three Cairns - Ginger, Buddy and Millie

Anne and Bob M of Pittsburgh, PA recently sent an update of their three cairns. Here is what she says:

Ginger is a dear senior cairn, who we adopted from a local shelter 10 years or so ago.

Buddy is the light of our life, adopted from Col. Potter a few years back. We picked him up in Gros Isle, Michigan and he has been our delight ever since. He is a dog dog and does not think he is human. Loves to cuddle but at his own time and place. Follows my husband about, always anticipating a walk. He is eager, funny, fast, and so sweet.

Millie came to us during a transport last March or April. She didn’t bark for 6 weeks (does now!), couldn’t do stairs for even longer, although she could jump onto a couch for a snuggle. She is still, almost a year later, proud of herself when she manages stairs. She is a dear sweet marshmallow of a dog with not a mean bone in her body. She is tilted to a definite California Rake with her back end much higher than her front and her fur the consistency of silk and oh, those eyes!!!!! In her whole life she will never get enough pats.
