Tess: From Famous Lover to Famously Loved

One year ago this month (2/13/11 to be exact), a batch of 14 Cairns came into Col. Potter – Named the "Famous Lovers" because of their Valentine’s Day arrival. Aphrodite, Paola, Adonis, Cyrano, Heloise, Echo, Francesca, Roxanne, Narcissus, Pierrot, Abelard, Pierette, Juliet, and Romeo.

They all grab you, but one of them stole our hearts, and as soon as we saw this photo, we applied to adopt her.

VERY PREGNANT Aphrodite - At the shelter in OH where all 124+ dogs were taken after being seized from a hoarder. We say + because several of them, were pregnant, one giving birth at the shelter that very day!

Aphrodite waited until she was safe and warm in CP’s loving arms to bring her six puppies into the world, lovingly fostered in Missouri by Stacey and Alice Wagers. Her pups were named Yertle the Turtle, Lori the Lorax, Star Bellied Sneetch, Mulberry, Marvin K. Mooney and Horton, all after Dr. Suess characters.

Aphrodite, NOW TESS - at home in BuddyWorld at Calliope – she is our little “Princess Angel”.
We GAVE her our beloved Miri’s (fka CP’s Lena ) birthday (February 10) and estimate her to be 2 years old. Miri crossed the Rainbow Bridge November 22, 2010 and we believe sent us Tess to fill that hole in our hearts.

SO - A happy second birthday and first gotchya day to you Miss Tess Ami at Calliope.

WE are so lucky to have you!

Tess of Mehoopany - First Christmas for a PuppyMill Survivor

Tess seems to have loved her first Christmas in Freedom – not being one to “play” with toys, she sure liked this little guy.

Happy First Gotcha Day to Gabby!

One year ago, at the MO CRAP, little Gabby was adopted into Amy & Brian's Calliope Family
Below is Gabby with her Fursib Rocky's ball, which she sneakily confiscated.

The toy is a “foam ball” covered with a canvas-like material (it’s a child’s toy) – Rocky loves larger ball toys.  He could have played with this for hours: See the video here.  WARNING: Bark Alert!!

Gabby's youngest fursib Tess is totally enjoying her life here, and continues to explore and find her fun and herself.  Notice her playhouse aka the S.S. Vermin.

Gabby surely landed in high cotton! Happy Gotcha Day, Gabby!

Tess' Wonderful Life

Tess fka Aphrodite (famous lovers group) is one special little girl.  Barely out of puppyhood herself, she came to Col. Potter with a litter of her own on board. She safely delivered 6 babies - 3 girls and 3 boys - who were named after Dr. Seuss characters.

After nursing, raising and weaning the puppies found their own furever homes. Then it was time for the Mama’s wonderful life to begin. First Tess flew in cabin from Missouri to Pennsylvania where she joined Brian and Amy’s large clan at Calliope -Wookie (aka “Fabio” and Cairn wannabe), Wookie, Lucy, Missy, Rocky and Gabby - these 2 youngest are Tess’ bestest playmates  Click photo for an updated album of the clan.

Amy also sent a few recent back yard videos:

Tess video 2
Tess video 3

Tess surely landed in some well-deserved high cotton and now gets all the loving and playing for a very happy furever after!

Jambo Got the Right "Chance"

Hi, Monika,

Just wanted to thank you so very much for taking little Jambo in and caring for him after he was rescued. He is an absolute doll - and he and Tess get along very, very well. It was not love at first sight; I think she put him in the squirrel/chipmunk category when he first arrived. She went after him a couple of times and scared me to death. But they are now the best of friends, although when he gets in her face a little too much she does discipline him...she permits him to do things that our fosters last year were NEVER allowed.

He can drink out of her water bowl, sleep in one of her many beds, sit on my husband's lap (as long as she's there too)...it's amazing. We will have toy issues, since she is very toy aggressive, but that will work itself out.

He's growing like a weed - I've never seen a dog eat with such joy - and is very smart. He learned "sit" in just 4 five minute sessions, almost has "down", knows "out" and "house"...walking on lead is another matter; he hates the leash and makes no bones about it. Definitely has that "you are not the boss of ME!" attitude when it comes to that. I'm doing home training, but formal obedience classes will start for him in January.

In short - he will be a much loved family addition. I cannot imagine a better match for us and for Tess. You probably know his new name - I figured that since his fire ant bites allowed him to escape from the mill and have a chance for a real life, that "Chance" fit him quite well. He answers to it readily, especially if a Cheerio is involved!

Again, Monika, thank you for him and for all that you do.

Hugs-
Bobbi

P.S. Little Jambo, came in with the "Say Hello Group" and is the little boy who's tummy was eaten up with what we suspect were fire-ants.
