Every Toto (and Darby) Needs a Dorothy

An update on Darby in Texas:
6 months ago this weekend our lives changed---Nov. 28th 2010.  This marks the day we picked up Darby/Ciao ar the Dallas Airport.  She flew in from Penn. where she was in Foster Care with the B's.  She was rescued in October from a puppy mill, was quite confused scared.  In spite of that, she has been such a WONDERFUL dog!!  We can't tell you how she has changed our lives.  Darby is our 4th cairn.  Our last Cairn, Matty, died unexpectedly in Oct.  We were shocked and sad but knew just the right dog would come along to join us in this journey called "LIFE"......

Then we found out about Col Potter and after a lot of anticipation We were told we could have Darby!!!  God knew who we needed!!!  She is perfect!  Our 1st Cairn was Silver black Brindle, our next 2 were Wheaten; now we had come full cycle and we got Darby, a Black Brindle.  She is beautiful!  She is so dark we can't see her around the house at night!!!  She has learned to get out of our way so we don't trip over her!!!  She is so smart and so wants to please!  She looks to us as the folks she use to dream about the first 2 yrs of her life!  She is our Toto dog and we are her Dorothy!!!

She does well at the Groomers and loves to be brushed and thinned with the comb from Col. Potter.   She has been groomed 3 times and some golden fur is peaking through her black fur....so pretty!!!

Darby found out it DOES snow in Texas !!!  She finds it very COLD and is very curious about it!:
Darby loves to nap on sheets and blankies which we, of course, keep in every room of the house!

She LOVES her bones and spends a lot of time chewing on them and laying on her couch blankie!  She will chew on one for awhile and spend the rest of the night running all over the house finding a safe place to bury it.  Moving it from place to place!!

She LOVES her backyard and plays with the squirrels and birds!  She is very polite she will NOT scratch at the door to come in....instead she will sit 3-5 feet away from the door and wait patiently for us to notice!!  And she doesn't feel like she has to bark at the neighbor dogs or the wind.  Our other Cairns were very scared of storms--you would think the world was coming to an end!  NOT DARBY!!!  Rain, Wind, Thunder, Lightening even Tornadoes----NO BIG DEAL !!!  WE LOVE THAT!!!!!!  She even takes the yard guys in stride!!  I guess the main thing that gets her barking is the doorbell and she is still a little nervous with people coming into the house.  MUCH better than at first!

Darby's most important job is chasing the squirrels between the tree and the fence.  The squirrels yap at her and tease her all day!!  She finally decided the best way was easier to just sit under the tree to "stay in control" of those squirrels!

Our daughter's cairn, Presley, spent the weekend 2 weeks ago, and they spent a lot of time looking out her favorite window and spotting the squirrels in the backyard.

Darby is so loving and doesn't take her new home for granted.  She greets us every time we come home or even come into the room with kisses.  She has the funniest way of getting our attention---she will CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP her teeth together REALLY loud!!  It's Hilarious!!!  and Yes it does get  the attention she is looking for!!!  She  also dances on her back feet and flaps her front paws!  That works too!!  She loves to cuddle, have her tummy rubbed and her unconditional love is truly a Blessing!!  We humans should be dogs sometimes!!

Once again, THANK YOU COL POTTER FOR ALL YOU DO and FOR GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE DARBY A HOME!!

Blessings,

Vicki and Steve B in Texas

Darby's Looking Pretty and Having Fun in Texaa

Darby (fka Ciao) continues to do GREAT here in TEXAS & yes---- she has a bit of a southern bark now !!  She is feeling very loved & has become much more relaxed around new people.  She did good staying with our daughter while we went out of town.  She met her new Dr. & got a great checkup!  She has had her 1st grooming - just a little trim and shapeup!

Darby says: "I went to the groomer for the 1st time!!  Her Name is Terry!  She loves me!  I love My new haircut!!"

Darby loves to curl up on all the blankies laying around the house...prefers them over dog beds.  She loves her chewy sticks & Darby loves her BIG backyard...she loves to stretch out & rub her tummy on the leaves & roll in the dead grass...which sticks to her black fur like a magnet!!.......not real sure what those other little animals are....we tell her they are squirrels & birds!!  LOL  She gives lotsa kisses & we give kisses back!!  We are so blessed & continue to thank everyone @ CP & especially her foster mommy & daddy!  She sends her LOVE to everyone!!!    :)

Ciao arrives in Texas!

4 WEEKS AGO TODAY OUR LIVES CHANGED!!

In Oct we lost a very dear friend.....our sweet Matty.
She was our 3rd Cairn Terrier to own in the past 30+ yrs.
She had just turned 10 & we were very surprised & sad
when she went very quickly with cancer.

Immediately our grown girls & their husband's began
looking for us a dog.Our older daughter has 2 Cairns & our
youngest daughter has 1 cairn. WE WERE in NOOOO hurry!
As they looked they found several precious Cairns...
and our path's kept crossing dogs at Col. Potter.
So after the application was done the process moved quickly!!

We were introduced to several adorable Cairns through
emails between our Matchmaker & The Foster parents,
but when all was said & done we fell in love with a
beautiful 2 yr black Brindle named CIAO living in PA.
in a wonderful Foster home.
She had 2 foster siblings & had only been there for a couple
of weeks. She was rescued in MO in mid October along
with 5-6 other Cairns & arrived to her Foster on Halloween!

After 2 very intense days of consisting of a home visit and
many emails we were chosen to be Ciao's new Furrever Family
all the way in TEXAS !!
We were very excited & looked so forward to her arrival.
We decided to change her name to DARBY!

The weather between Tx & PA that time of year was very unpredictable
so arrangements were made to fly her to us!
The only flight they were able to get her on as direct as possible,
arrived on the Sunday after Thanksgiving weekend.

She arrived Safe & Sound!!

A Bit scared but very happy to see meet us &
see her new home!

We were told she loved her Crate in Foster care so we made
sure she had 2 comfy crates with soft & cute blankies!!!
She has become very acquainted with her newhome, family & back yard.

She has even become a COWBOYS FAN, much to the dismay
of her Foster Daddy who is a HUGE Eagles Fan!!

Daddy took her for her 1st harness walk a couple of weeks
ago & she did so GOOD!! She is very curious !!
She does the cutest little dance up on her back legs
flapping her front paws!
We figured out she wants to be picked up & LOVED on!!
We love that!! She is a real cuddlier & lap buddy!

She loves her ears & tummy rubbed! WHAT A SWEETIE!!
Darby is still a bit shy around other people,
but she is learning our friends, kids & grandkids.
She has met our youngest daughters Cairn & they played
together really well.

Xmas was A Blast & Darby was quite the Santa Dog!!

Darby loves her new mommy & daddy.
She as come A very long way in 4 weeks!
It's hard to believe she is ours!
She loves to eat & is very polite when she eats.
We have received a lot of good advise from our Post Adoption Coordinator
and we continue to communicate with her foster parents.
She has found "safe places" to go when she doesn't want to be social
with strangers. She found her bark her 3rd day here!
WE LOVE HER SOOO MUCH!! What a GREAT DOG!

We Thank everyone at Col. Potter for all the hard work they do
& the great job they did holding our hand through this whole process!!
WE ARE VERY LUCKY & WE THINK GOD
HAS HAND A BIG HAND IN MATCHING US WITH DARBY!!

MORE DARBY NEWS LATER!!!
